“A useful, thought provoking introduction that brought the extent of our global situation into sharp focus with Earth Overshoot Day figures. Truly shocking! It also highlighted the possibilities to make change happen through the UN SDGs. It was interesting to explore the role of technology as both hero and villain. It is a huge subject that can get overwhelming with all the bad news. This course avoided that with a balanced approach that left me feeling empowered and pro-active. The inflection point this decade made the issues and need to take action very clear. The struggle of business and industry being used to having control and having to face shareholders, clients and employees is key. It was useful to have the advantages of being an early adopter laid out as well as the ability of the business sector to change fast. Business sector holds the most wealth to invest - $110 trn of 150 trn total global GDP. A very important figure!! I noticed an anomaly in the 'Financing change' module that I may have misunderstood, but may be worth your while checking. In Figure 1 under 'impact investing' I think you were saying 'trillions' while the actual figures are shown as billions on the chart. Thus the amount is a very small percentage of global GDP, not 35% but .035%. I apologize if I've got this wrong! I really liked the clear data on investment. Consequences of inaction, a great overview of the complexity and moving parts at play to keep in mind. They are all risks. The industry insights were very useful to have expanded out for scrutiny with the major risk factors highlighted. Small Steps Big Impact gave a practical way forward to deliver incremental change over time. You laid out very clearly how the private business sector will have to move funds and actions forwards fast to redress the damage done and make change for the future. You make a compelling case. The 10% change is a practical way forward to correct the course. Also the need for individual businesses to pull in the same direction as at the national and global level for the change to be delivered most efficiently. I absolutely understand the need for a holistic approach.
